Cut Day Thoughts

Cut Day has come and gone. So have some golfers I thought would make it through the weekend. Names to the likes of Ernie Els, Sergio Garcia, Fred Couples (ended his streak at 23 cuts made in the Masters)... and the list goes on. I'm sure big disappointments for them, but what a weekend we have in store!!!

Pretty solid play early on by the golfers at the top of the leader board. Looks like it was easier to play early on Friday. The wind really kicked up around 5 or so, but then it died down. Tiger even said, it was hard to judge the wind, speed, direction, etc. on Friday afternoon.

No problems like that in the morning, though. They were able to get out, shoot low rounds and enjoy the clubhouse lead for the entire afternoon. Trevor Immelman is playing some real solid golf. But, will he fall back at all?

Reporter Chris Thomas and I were talking about Tiger Woods last night. We both agree, Tiger looks like he is just "feeling out his competition" right now in the first two rounds, and then these last two rounds, he'll decide to turn on the jets. He certainly has some momentum from the birdie on 17 and par save on 18 when he was on the 10th fairway, ready to hit his third shot. Watch for him to make a move today and for the rest of the pack to fall back. (If Chris and I are wrong, he convinced me he's going to be right!!)

My CRAZY stat of the Day (Rd. 2 style): I have two -- both about streaks. First, Fred Couples not making the cut for the first time in 24 tries. What a streak it was. We thought he was going to make it again this year, but had a rough last couple of holes. Amen Corner really did him in during the Second Round. My second CRAZY stat is 51. 51 times Gary Player has teed it up and played in the Masters. What a streak! This golfing legend says he'll be back next year. This is what golf is about -- tradition.

My SHOT of the Day (Rd. 2 style): None other than Tiger Woods. He's going back and forth between +1 and -1... and on 17, he hits a perfect drive and his approach shot lands.... right next to the hole. I envy that. Don't you? If I could only.... eh, I'm not even going to go there. It wouldn't happen. But, then again, miracles do happen.

My PREDICTION of the Day (Rd. 2 style): To no one's surprise, my Round 2 prediction was wrong. Jim Furyk isn't in the lead... nor is he close. -1. He dropped a shot and shot a 73 on Friday. I'm hoping for better luck today. So, here it is. Don't get too excited. Tiger Woods is going to be with 2 shots of the lead at the end of the day. He's going to make his move and the leaders are going to fall back.

I just looked out my window and turned on The Weather Channel.... looks like some storms are brewing! But, it's pretty mild outside. Bob Smith told me on Friday, the rain (if we get any) will be out of here by early afternoon. I sure hope that's what happens. It looks NASTY outside right now.

I'm heading down to Washington Road today to talk with some patrons about the weather and what they're going to do if there's a rain delay. Watch News 12 at 7 or right after play today. We're going on late with live reports from the course.

Enjoy your Saturday and Third Round action. Leave your comments too!!!
